Welcome to the 34th annual Essex Invitational.
This year the meet will again be held at the beautiful Catamount Outdoor Family Center in Williston, VT. The invitational hosts seven races, including a citizens race, two junior varsity, and four varsity. Teams come
from New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine. Our event is one of the finest Cross Country races of the season, with a beautiful but challenging course, and top competition from throughout the region. It's a great way to get your season off to an excellent start! |
| The
Course
This is one of the most beautiful cross country courses in New
England, with views of Mt. Mansfield and Camel's Hump. It is a
challenging course with rolling hills through mowed meadows and two
short wooded sections (no pavement on the course). Finally, It is a
wonderful spectators course, racers can be seen for three-fourths of
the race. The distances are 5km for the high school divisions. |

Parking
Each car will be charged $5 to park in the
Catamount parking lots. There will be no parking permitted for cars along
either side of the road. Overflow parking, and those who
don't want to pay, will park in either Williston Central
or Allen Brook School.
Parents, event workers and spectators are strongly encourage to ride bicycles or
carpool to be environmental friendly while attending this event.
Busses this year will be asked to park along the side of the
road to the east of the race course and parking lot. This
will free up more spaces for cars in the main lots.
Miscellaneous
Course Tours: You will be able to walk the course on
Friday. Your team will not need a tour, just follow the signs and mowed
paths. On Saturday the course will be open beginning at 7:30 am to the
start of the first race at 8:30 am.
Divisions: Please consider division II a small school
division. Small schools can feel free to run in the division I
race. A maximum of seven runners per team
allowed in the varsity races.

Directions
FROM BURLINGTON: Follow Main Street out of Burlington
(Route 2 East) through South Burlington and into Williston. Stay on Route 2
through Taft Corners into Williston Village. At the 4-way stop, turn left onto
North Williston Road. Follow exactly one mile, turn right onto Governor
Chittenden Road. Catamount parking is on the left.
FROM BURLINGTON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT: Turn left out of
airport drive onto Airport Road, follow to the traffic light. Turn left onto
Route 2, follow into Willliston through Taft Corners into Williston Village. At
the 4-way stop, turn left onto North Williston Road. Follow exactly one mile,
turn right onto Governor Chittenden Road. Catamount parking is on the left.
FROM I-89, POINTS SOUTH Take Exit 11
(Richmond/Williston Exit). At end of exit ramp, turn right onto Route 2 heading
West into Williston. In Willliston village, at the 4-way stop, turn right onto
North Williston Road. Follow exactly one mile, turn right onto Governor
Chittenden Road. Catamount parking is on the left. NOTE: Governor Chittenden
Road has two ends. Please follow our directions as listed, the road is poor in
the middle!
FROM I-89, POINTS NORTH Take Exit 12 (Williston Taft
Corners Exit). At the end of the exit ramp, turn left onto Route 2A. Follow to
intersection of Route 2 (by Friendly's), turn right onto Route 2 East and follow
into Williston Village. At the 4-way stop, turn left onto North Williston Road.
Follow exactly one mile, turn right onto Governor Chittenden Road. Catamount
parking is on the left. |
